Little seeds are sound-bite posts where I share a quick thought, video, article, or some other bit of interesting information.
Easter is on it’s way and with that comes egg dying! This was always a favorite activity of mine growing up – coloring the eggs, wrapping them with the little plastic wrappers, drawing on them first with an “invisible” crayon so the pattern would shine through once it was colored. It provided TONS of fun for my sister and I, as I imagine it did for countless kids then and still today.
It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I heard of people coloring their eggs with natural dyes rather then from the little pill-shaped disk that came with the egg kit at the grocery store. I have never dyed eggs with natural dye (I don’t currently dye eggs for Easter) but I’ve always wanted to give it a whirl. If you have kids or love to decorate with eggs for Easter, I rounded up a couple of links with natural dye recipes so you can be festive this holiday:
- Dyeing Eggs Naturally from Martha Stewart (so you know they’re going to look good!)
- How to Make Vibrant, Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs from Kitchn if you like bolder colors
- Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs from Whole Foods
If you’re looking for some others, I pinned a bunch on my “green holidays” board on Pinterest which you can check out here.
Have you ever used natural dyes for your Easter eggs? How did they turn out? What’s your favorite recipe? And also – does anyone have tips for the hard boiled eggs after Easter? I’m generally not a hard boiled egg person but would love some good recipes!
